Privacy policy
Not yet reviewed by a lawyer
This page is a working draft describing what Genetica actually does today. It is not final legal text and should not be relied on until a lawyer has reviewed it.
This document is a draft. Genetica's real privacy policy needs review by a lawyer before launch, per the project decisions record. Nothing on this page is final legal text.
What we collect
When you upload a raw genotype file from 23andMe or AncestryDNA, we store that file, the genetic markers derived from it, and the results Genetica computes from it: trait predictions, polygenic score percentiles, ancestry estimates, and, if you use Connect, simulated children with a partner.
We also store your account details (email, and the packages you have bought), your order history, and a record of key actions taken on your account, such as an upload, a deletion, or accepting a connection request.
Consent
Before you upload a file, Genetica asks you to confirm you understand what will be computed and stored from it, and that you consent to that processing. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your data from your account page.
How long we keep things
Your raw upload is encrypted while it is stored. Once processing finishes successfully, the raw file is deleted thirty days later. The genetic markers derived from it are kept longer, so your results can be recomputed without asking you to upload again.
Deleting your data
Your account page has a Delete my data button. Using it removes your raw upload, your derived files, every result Genetica has computed for you, and any children simulated with a partner. Your order history is kept for accounting and legal reasons, and one record is kept noting that a deletion happened and when.
No medical claims
Genetica reports statistical estimates from published research, not a diagnosis or medical advice. Every prediction on this site carries that reminder. Some content, such as APOE genotype or schizophrenia risk, is labeled academic and is not a health claim.
Sharing
We do not sell your genetic data. Processing partners that see parts of your data on our behalf, such as our cloud hosting provider and our payment processor, are bound by their own agreements with us and only see what they need to do their job.
